These four books are my favorite from the dark tower series. From the first book which is the introduction to Roland, to the second where he acquires the rest of his Ka-tet, into the third which is basically the beginning of their journey for the tower as a group, and reintroduces jake. And the fourth book(my favorite), which tells the story of roland becoming a gunslinger. I've read this one the most, because it's almost like a stand-alone story. After these books, the series really seemed to have gone downhill. Maybe this is why the new graphic novels are exploring the time period after the story within wizard and glass.

This is the story about Roland of Gilead, the last gunslinger, and his quest for The Dark Tower. Upon this journey he does everything to reach his goal, but is it enough...-- This work has capivated me beyond anything I thought possible.. He(Stephen King) makes you feel at one with the story, and images of Rolands world will be yours through every word of each page that you look upon. He masters it all !! --I am in need.. he has left me hanging on the edge of a cliff that will be my downfall if Roland does not come forth(and soon) to finish his quest.

This novel contains some of the best character development by King, and contains one of the most fascinating characters of modern literature, namely, Roland. Although Roland's past is presently not completely developed, the character is passionate, dark, intelligent, among other things. King has finally managed to mix the past with the present action in this book. One never feels yanked back and forth between flashbacks like you can in some of King's other works. My only regret is that there are only a few more books left in the series.

This is one of the best series I have ever read. I borrowed TheWaste Lands {pt. 3} from my library and I haven't returned it in 2years, unfortunatley I have a big bill to pay, but it is fully worth it, I am going to buy the Series, the 3 Paperback book set. It is all about a parallel world that is becoming seperated and both worlds might be destroyed if Roland{"The Gunslinger"}, Eddie, Jake, and Susannah. Oh and of course 'Charlie the Choo Choo'. It is a very interesting and mysterious book, I HIGHLY reccommend these books to anyone.

"The Dark Tower" series is the very core of Kings' work and it is plain to see that this is his best writing. This is not one of his typical horror storys, and even if your not a King fan, I'm sure you'll love this one. A story that is still yet to be complete (4 books so far) and leaves readers itching for the next part. It set in a mysterious world of fantasy but some how is so real like it will draw you in. This is the master's masterpeice. An absolute must...Join the quest for the elusive Dark Tower...

Like a previous reviewer, I also came across this series out of shere boredom when I was sitting in my high school library 6 years ago. I simply pulled one book totally blindfolded out of a shelf and it happened to be the Gunslinger, the original. I instantly become attached and couldn't wait for the next edition. Each addition was better than the last, with The Wizard's Glass being the highlight. I hope Mr. King intends to finish this series, because as a fan of King, I regard these works as his best.

Having read the whole series up to date, I can truly say that these stories are not only thrilling but a page turner from beginning to end. There are so many different scenerio's that could happen in this book that it could go on forever! My favorite book so far is when the gunslinger goes back to his childhood as a young lad. My advice is to read from the first book to the last one written though otherwise you'll be confused if you don't know the full story behind the gunslinger and his friends.

I felt the first book of "The Dark Tower" series "The Gunslinger" was ok, but this book, "The Drawing of Three" was much better. Even though this book still does not answer much about Rolands quest for the Dark Tower it was a fun and exciting read. The way King describes each passage through the doorway was wonderful. The different characters were exciting, I especially liked Eddie Bean. There were a few good surprises in this book between the main characters, which was very well done. This book is enough for me to continue reading the series and to see what is in store Roland as his quest continues.

As an avid Stephen King fan, I thought that this series showcases some of his most insightful and detailed work. For those who are used to King's horror, murder, and macabre sadistical writings, the series may shock you in its different content, but will soon draw you into the oddities and wonders of Roland the gunslinger's "mid-world." The first in the series focuses on Roland's search and his mission, setting the stage for his drawing of the three in the next volume. This book lends just enough of a look into the background of Roland's childhood to make you identify with him, and his seemingly hopeless quest. The second volume "The Drawing of the Three" tells a well woven tale of "ka" and how Roland and his three become, and survive, pulling themselves together into their fated "ka-tet" of, eventually, five. The third book (which comes in the boxed volume) entitled "The Wastelands" is the first in the series that stops really setting the scene of the books, but actually gets more into the heart of what is to be, and what is to come for the quartet of "gunslingers" which each in their own rite has now become. DO NOT read this book unless you have in your posession the fourth, "Wizard and Glass" as the ending of the third is greatly unsatisfying, leaving the fate of the characters hanging in the balance, left up to the harsh peculiarities of a mono-rail named Blaine. As I am now on the fourth book, I cannot give review as of yet except to say that it is promising to be as great as the first three.

This mighty and masterful series combines many of my favorite themes and genres. I was suprised that King wrote this. It has science fiction of the first order, it has drama and romance, it has magic and fantasy, it has wild west style adventure, it has the holy quest of the knights of the round table, it has horrors, it has exotic anthropological beliefs--in short, it has it ALL! It's like his other great books are planets and this is the sun. I read from all areas and subject matter, and it is hard for me to name any books I enjoyed more deeply. This guy is a master. With all its ideals and universal themes running through it, this series is destined to become an all-time classic. I hope these are read widely by those who are not interested in horror even. Intellectuals and thrill-seekers alike will like this one. I would recommend it to anyone who likes to read, period. Stephen King's best work. P. S. I was amazed that the first review from that guy in washington D.C. was so negative, it is as though he didn't read the books at all. If anything, I didn't get any of that from the books that I don't also see in Walt Disney films--for example 101 dalmations, Lion King, Bambi, and Little Mermaid all involve youngsters overcoming treachery. Only this series is like a story where Disney leaves off--like the Lion King grown up, and there is still plenty of overcoming to do! The story is a testament to the human spirit and eternal Hope. This is a very uplifting series of books. You simply can't go wrong with these books.

I read this trilogy while I was attending college 3 years agoand I can assure you several classes were missed as I read just onemore chapter. I found my attempt to finish each read at a resolved point was quite impossible and I ended up completing all three books within a few days. The way King hints at the fact that Rolands world is our own future gone awry is intriquing and almost depressing. Just enough mystery, magic and muscle for a good long read. (And a good long wait for the conclusion!)

I've just finished re-reading the DARK TOWER series for the second time and I found it even more engrossing. the first time I read it I read it out of order and not in series. This time However I was able to sit down and read it in order the way it should be(I also have WIZARD AND GLASS). This epic adventure begins with the words "The man in black entered the desert and the gunslinger followed" and that sets the tone for the story. the first book THE GUNSLINGER introduces us to a world that is "moving on", and to our hero Roland. We glimpse bits and pieces of Rolands world and our own (which is somehow related to rolands). I don't like to tell the story you have to read it so let's Move on to book two. In THE DRAWING OF THE THREE Roland meets up with the members of his KA-TET With whom he will share many great adventures on the way to find THE DARK TOWER.The third book of the seriesTHE WASTE LANDSis non stop adventure for our hero and his group of friends. Let's just say it will change the way you look at train travel! This series is by far Stephen Kings best work and it delves into a realm of science fiction that isn't usually written about. What is the earth going to be like 8000-10000 years after we finish ruining it.(That is my personal opinion of the setting. The books never reveal the exact time relationship)This is a story that can be read over and over and will leave you waiting on the edge of your seat for the next volumne. Also the art work is wonderful, although I preffer the third books the best. If you don't have any of the books yet then this set is the way to go because it will allow you to read them in order and straight through. The way you will want to once you have been DRAWN into this strange and wonderful world.

Weep not over Stephen King's success... he is successful, because he touches a common chord in most all humanity. He is accessible, his stories, especially the Gunslinger series, speak of loss, fear and love, in other words, the human condition. He paints both villians and heroes in a believable gray, if you will, rather than starkly black and white. He's a master at drawing the reader into his tale. His characters breathe and his imagination is without peer. So dry your eyes, honey, this really is a pretty good tale.

I just wish they would not make the movie. WHY?
I read all the issues of Dune. The movie was beyond stupid. They didn't even capture the real story. Not even close.
I fear this will be the same. If they had even a small chance to really get this right it would take a movie of about a hundred plus hours.

The Dark Tower series are an addiction to me that is even worse than any drug. King brings us in the mind of Roland and his fellow travellers. In the beginning when we met Roland, he seems to be an cold and weird person. But in the last book of the serie(wizard glass) King brings us back to the past of Roland, in which we can understand his previous thinking and actions. We understand his quest and are very anxious for the next part of the Dark Tower.

This set contains the first four books in the Dark Tower series. The Dark Tower is about a gunslinger and some friends he meets along the way attempting to reach the Dark Tower. This is some of King's finest writing. My only complaint is that King has revised the original Gunslinger in this boxed set.

Buy this set!

Without giving a synopsis of what the series is about, "Dark Tower" books are amazing. The first book was a little tough to get through since it seemed to be laying a lot of groundwork, but the second and third books began to flow much better. The final books were the "page-turners" to me that one of the reviewers on this site found them not to be. I have read the entire series about 10 times now and each time I read them, I pick up something new or understand something that was foreshadowed 5 books ago. It is an amazing piece of work and I highly recommend it. I was especially happy that these books did not involve a lot of the gore for which Stephen King is known- this is a highly imaginative and complex story.

Books 1-4 are fantasy horror at its best. Lots of action, mechanical beasts, and violent wastelands make the first four books in this series just plain awesome. Wolves of the calla was okay and I'm on book six now. These were just as engaging as Harry Potter was.

I used to love King's horror as a child, but got sick of him around Gerald's Game. Most of the stuff I'd read I regarded as fluff, no substance. Except The Gunslinger. I could not escape the power of Roland of Gilead and his quest. All the books have their high points, with the original being at the top of my list. I hold King with a grain of salt, but these and Different Seasons still capture for me what literature is all about.

While I am not really a fantasy or a science fiction fan, and the Dark Tower series seems to take elements of each of these (and several others), I cherish these first four books in the series. While the Dark Tower series is hard to describe, it is easy to read. The first four books in the series are some of my favorite books of all time. I have reread each several times (something I rarely do with any book). Book five is good, just not up to the high standards of one through four. Books six and seven were the largest disappointments, to me, of any author's work. None of this, though, can take away the magic of books one through four. I can safely recommend these books to you, almost no matter what type of books you usually like.

The whole series is great, I was instantly caught in the first book "The Gunslinger". Once you start with that one, it's hard to put the next two books ("The Drawing of the Three" & "The Wastelands") down since they're so fast-paced. The story slows down quite a bit in the fourth book "Wizard and Glass" since it's about the main characters (Roland Dechain of Gilead) earlier days, right after he became a Gunslinger. There are 3 other books after Wizard and Glass (The Wolves of the Calla, The Song of Suzannah, and.. last but certainly not least, The Dark Tower) so you would have to read the whole story to get the full effect of it. I would recommend this series to anyone and everyone who loves to read!

These three books are among the best books i have ever read in my entire life, granted i am only seventeen, but reading has always been one of my passions. The Dark Tower series grabs you and doesnt let go. Obsessive would be the only adequate word to describe how i feel about the books when i am reading them- and i have read each one at least twice, the first one even three times! No matter who you are and what is going on in your life each reader can feel a connection with the characters. Thats part of what makes the books so enthralling- we see ourselves as Roland pushing forward no matter what or Eddie Dean overcoming the unthinkable and finally learning to accept himself. I dont care what types of books you read- these books are for everybody and anybody. If you are looking for truely good books that will keep you yearning for more then look no further. King throws the plot around so often youll be thinking about it every waking moment of the day. My only gripe is that King doesnt come out with them often enough- i need more!

What I enjoy most about the quest for the Dark Tower is the uncanny way the book comes to life all around you. Reading it is as if you have a front-row seat in a 3-d movie. Stephen King has a way of drawing on your powers of imagination like no one else can. If you don't believe this, go read 'It'(but read it in a well lit room). All I can say is that I check the web every day to see if part 5 is out.

These books are very good.
The first two are amazing.
Three is very creative.
4 gets a little too deep into Roland's past but that's how Stephen wanted it.
The fifth book is the one I'm on now and so far so good.

The Dark Tower Series is the best story I've ever read. Roland and his quest is totally enthralling. I don't think King can write these fast enough for me. I've read the series five or six times already, with the first copy having to be replaced because I read it into oblivion. These books show how Stephen King's imagination can bring you into worlds that you never thought possible.

This series of books is beyond words. For those looking for something like The Lord of the Rings, this is it. The only difference is that there is nothing that you can call puny in these books.

I have struggled to accurately display the story of Roland Deschain, son of steven, last gunslinger of gilead and his dark tower, yet I know of no diction to properly describe it. The closest I can come is to comparing it to a cross between a western (the gunslinger), The Lord of the Rings (magic, and other worldly happenings), and Band of Brothers (weapons, battles, bonding to the point of family). To me, it is the best literary work that ive laid eyes on. I will read this set of books till I have to breath left to spin.

I think this is Mr. King's best series I have read just about all of his books and this series is the best,I only wish he would finish writing the other books. At his webpage he says book 5 might be done in the year 2001 and that is not even supposed to be the final book according to what he wrote at the end of "Wizard and Glass". These books are a must have for anyone

It seems as if almost every book Stephen King has ever written ties in, somehow, somewhere, with this series. Eyes of the Dragon, Insomnia, The Stand, The Talisman (his combined work with Peter Straub), and at least one of his short stories concerning 'Salem's Lot all have a place in this meticulously crafted universe. If you've ever read King, you're already a fan, but this series is, beyond a doubt, his greatest accomplishment. Like some other readers I've been suffering anxiety attacks while waiting for the 4th book in the series, thinking some disaster would befall King and the series would be left unfinished. Now that I've read the latest volume (3 times) I'm beginning to fiend all over again. I can't wait for the 5th book, and sadly I know it will probably be a long time coming, but will definately be worth the wait. This series is truly a work of art.

With two recent Dark Tower releases and a forthcoming grand finale, fans of Stephen King's dark fantasy series may want to brush up on the first four volumes of the series. "The Gunslinger," "the Drawing of the Three," "The Waste Lands" and "Wizard's Glass" all have their individual flaws, but the overall effect is excellent.

"The Gunslinger" introduces us to Roland Deschain of Gilead, the last gunslinger of a long-dead land. The hardened cowboy/knight wanders through a wasted world, tracking a "man in black" who can help him find (cue ominous music) the Dark Tower. Along the way he finds Jake, a young boy who was killed in a car accident in our world. But in the name of his quest, Roland may be called on to sacrifice what he loves...

"The Drawing of the Three" kicks off mere hours after "Gunslinger" ends. Roland is sick, and being pursued by carnivorous "lobstrosities." But then he ends up transporting his mind into our world -- specifically, into the minds of junkie smuggler Eddie Dean, and legless civil rights activist Odetta Holmes (and her evil alter ego, Detta). Roland "draws" these two into his own world, but Eddie's withdrawal and Detta's malevolence might kill his quest before it even starts.

"The Waste Lands" begins with Roland tutoring Susannah (formerly Odetta/Detta) and Eddie in how to be gunslingers. But while the newlyweds are rapidly getting the hang of it, Roland is not doing well. Because of a paradox he created when he saved the boy Jake, his mind is starting to deteriorate. In Manhattan, Jake is suffering from the same thing. To save them both from madness, the gang draws Jake away from our world. But no sooner has he joined them than they come to a ruined city, with an insane mono train and a sinister figure following them...

"Wizard's Glass" opens with the gang (or ka-tet) riddling desperately against an insane train, which is on a suicide run. Eddie barely manages to defeat it with a bunch of stupid jokes, and the ka-tet continues their journey. Along the way, Roland tells them the story of his first love Susan Delgado, a beautiful girl who was promised to a dirty old man, and how he lost her when he was only fourteen. And the story is linked to what is ahead -- a person from Roland's past awaits them, along with the hard-won Wizard's Glass that destroyed Roland's family.

Stephen King is best known for being a horror writer, covering everything from evil cars to telekinetic high-schoolers. But "The Dark Tower" is a gritty fantasy with a few horror elements in it, and though it has some grotesque images, it's more fantastical than icky. Not to mention that it has homages sprinkled through it to "Lord of the Rings," the "Childe Roland" story, "The Wizard of Oz," and even King's own books.

King's writing is full of slam-bang action, even if it doesn't excel in the technical sense. And the gunslinger is an excellent lead character, a mixture of rock-hard determination and affection for his friends. Eddie comes across as rather annoying at times, but he's evidently supposed to; on the other hand, Susannah is remarkably complex with her double personality. And Jake serves as a surrogate son for Roland, while displaying his own brand of eleven-year-old toughness.

As the release date for "The Dark Tower" approaches, fans may want to brush up on this epic series, and newbies may want to find out more about it. Highly recommended.

Stephen King may not be the most profound writer of our time, but I believe this series of books will be the ones that he is remembered for. He takes us on a journy with the last Gunslinger, Roland of Gilead, who is in search for the Dark Tower. The Dark Tower is the center of time and space...mayber even a doorway to other worlds. Roland has plowed West across Mid-World in search for the Dark Tower, set on saving his dying land. Will Roland ever find the fabled Dark Tower? We all hope so as we journy with him and his ka-tet. Another great thing about this series is how King has started to tie in his other novels with Roland's world. This a must read for any King fan... and even the people that don't like King. JUST GET IT.

I started the first book one day, just because it was the only thing is my house and i needed to read something. It took a little more to get into, but once i was into it i loved it. When i got done with the third and was waiting for the fourth i made three other people start the series. If you can make it to the third this book is one that will be a favorite for years to come. King has sets the scene beyond any movie or computer generated image can reproduce. i was amazed with the depth that could be interpreted into the story. my normal genre is Dickens or Austen, but the characters and the imagination of the plot blew my away. I will put down what ever book i am in the middle of to finish the series. As a female i have to recommend this book to anyone that likes originality.

The Dark Tower series is Stephen King's masterwork. Although it is not yet complete, so far, in my humble opinion, this series should be considered the "Lord of the Rings" of our time. It contains equal doses of fantasy, sci-fi, and horror. If you are a fan of Stephen King, J.R.R. Tolkien, or are just looking for a new series to start on after LOTR, check this amazing series out!

Only Stephen King could give you that sensation of fall of the earth fright and travel to any planet fantasy.

As usual Stephen King keeps you guessing, just when your sure you know whats next, well what do you know, you're wrong!
He is rather Twilight Zonesque.

I can't wait for the next book in this series!

I don't usually collect first editions/sets, etc. but this one is exeptional. The illustrations are a plus, and the slip case is great to keep the books in mint condition. I've read the first book, the Gunslinger, and its a wonderful fantasy. King's horror is awsome to read, and I am equally impressed by his fantasy/sci-fi. His visual descriptions bring you to a different world, and you come to know his characters. If you like the Dark tower series, I also recommend The Stand and Eyes of the Dragon.

Most people would agree that Stephen King has mastered the horror genre but if this series is anything to go buy the likes of Robert Jordan and David Eddings had better watch their back. This is a truely orriginal fantasy series that grabs your attention from the very first sentence. Dark apocalyptic eerie and enchanting this storey will warp your mind and win your soul... brilliant.

The Gunslinger was my most favorite of the three. I really like how Stephen King describes things in this book, so good that you can picture yourself in the scene with the characters. (Can't leave much of a review because I have to go, but the series were very well written and you should definately read them.)

The world of the hero, Roland of Gilead is fantastic, amazing, I have read the 3 first books of the Dark Tower and one to one they are going better, it is an excellent work of S. K. that take us to a mystic world since the "world move on", the travel of Roland of Gilead (my truly hero, better than the heroes of my childhood, and the movie heroes) in the search of the Dark Tower will lead him to a lot of problems and dark challenges with strange characters of the world of Roland, and normal friends of the real world (our world)!, THE ONLY THING I HOPE, AND I AM SURE YOU WILL HOPE AFTER READING THE FIRST 3 PARTS OF THE DARK TOWER, IS THAT MR. KING CAN FINISHED BEFORE HE DIES!

This series of books is fantastic! I don't generally enjoy reading horror, so I was skeptic about reading this series. The first novel is a quick read, or I thought so, and I was anxious to start the second. The characters in the series become like family, and I found myself thinking about their well-being, when I wasn't actually reading! I even drempt about their journey's! This series is so much fun to read, when people ask me about it, the closest I can come to explaining is, it's like"~ reading your favorite soap opera. And that's an understatement, but its the closest analogy I can make. You really feel like they are related to you, and you find yourself worrying about their well being.

Stephen King pulls you into the world of Roland, the Last Gunslinger. His romantic and fanciful style reflect the deep heart of King within these books. Not necessarily the most gripping of his work, but by far one of the most entertaining. These books provide a doorway into the center of King's wolrd

THERE IS NOTHING THAT COMPARES TO THE EXCELLENCE OF THIS SERIES OF BOOKS. I STARTED TO READ APPREHENSIVLEY AS I DONT LIKE FANTASY BUT FOUND MY SELF READING THE WHOLE SERIES IN 2 WEEKS. THEY JUST GET BETTER AND BETTER. THE WIZARD AND GLASS WILL BLOW YOUR MIND BUT IT NEEDS A LITTLE PERSEVERENCE AS ITS A DIGRESSION FROM THE ORIGINAL STORY BUT ONCE YOU GET INVOLVED YOU CAN FORGET YOU LIFE. I SPENT MANY DAYS GETTING UP @ 5 IN THE MORNING TO READ 150 PAGE CHUNKS BEFORE WORK ETC. I READ THEM SO QUICKLY I AM ALREAY LOOKING FORWARD TO READING THEM AGAIN AS I UNDOUBTEDLY MISSED BITS. The Gunslinger series are the best "series" of books I have ever read. I first found Roland and his friends while driving truck 48 States Canada And Mexico. I soon bought the entire set in Audio Book. Not only is it a great story the reader of the audio book (unabriged) made it feel like you Where in the story. I actually had to pull over a few times to listen to certain parts cause you where drawn in with the suspence. Great books. One thing many don't know about the stories though is If you read Hearts In Atlantis it incorperates the Gunslinger in to that book. So tell me Mr.King was that a hint a new one is almost here??? "The man in Black fled across the desert, and the gunslinger followed." Those spellbinding words make your imagination go wild. Atleast they did for me. I personally thought about those words for a good twenty minutes. While the whole class was reading I was thinking about the book, and those words impaticular. The rest of the book is just great, and I reccomend it to anyone who hasn't had the oppurtunity to read a great book. This was my very first book read from cover to cover.Believe it or not, and it wont be the last. I've watched many of Steven King's movies and in my opinion they are good, but is books are twice as good. I really like the way he introduces characters, explains the plot, and I suggest this book to anyone.

I've been a fan of King since I was thirteen and hiding underneath the covers after reading Pet Cemetary. I'd read everything he's every written except Tower so.... I'm a late comer to The Dark Tower series. I would see them on the book stands and think....hummm not my thing. My sister got me the box set for Christmas of 06 and I thought well ok....I'll pick one up on a really boring day and just lob through it.

It was a fantastic surprise. I found hard to believe it was King at times writing this. Not that he is not a mastermind at fiction, but the depths of the characters and the story is just amazing. I found myself enthrawled to see where the story of Roland and his Ka-tet would unfold.

I am currently on book six and just can't wait to get to the last one. For anyone who is a King fan but doubting whether or not a 'fantasy' tale is one worth delving into.... I say please don't deprive yourself of this series a moment longer. I am a lifelong fan of the Tower without even reading the last installment :)

This is definitly different than any of his other writing! This seems to be the achievement of his goal as a superstar author. This is what he has worked his entire life for, and he has achieved it and then some. One of the best stories I have ever read and can't wait to read more!

My College roomate read the Dark Tower over a weekend, and urged me to read it. I dropped everything and read it in one day. Then the second book came out. I re-read the first, and then jumped through the second. Phenomenal. When the third came out, I couldn't stop myself, I read the first and second again, before savoring the third.

This series grabs you, and doesn't let go. You MUST read it, and join Roland in his quest for the Dark Tower.

The first 2 chapters of the next book were posted on the Internet a few months ago, and they left me drooling! If you enjoy mystery, fantasy, or even westerns, I highly recommend this series.

After getting past the first book (Stephen King of course using big words and phrases - some I can't even pronounce) and getting into the story deeper, I found book 2 intriguing, book 3 action packed, and book 4 absolutely brilliant. Definitely worth reading.

The gunslinger, our dark hero, lives in a twisted dark mirror image of a world NOT unlike our own, which is 'moving on', ever changing and breaking down even as he moves within it. Robotic bears and talking trains, cowboys and castles, magic and science all mixed into a story that is neither fantasy nor science fiction but a mixture of both.

Like Mr. King says in one of the forwards of the books... He doesn't know if he will finish it. This is one story I hope never ends. King has let me down in most of his titles with the endings. It would be a shame to for him to undermine his true ability in his greatest work.

I know many people who read and love this series. It starts in a futuristic setting, that seams more reminiscent of our 1800's. Yet it ties in other worlds, familiar names and places, as well as haunting possibilities.

I dare say, it is impossible to read book one and not follow up with book 2 through 7. Get it and enjoy your journey.

I can easily say that this is the best Stephen King series I have yet come across, and I am usually not one for science fiction. This was intrigueing though because of the touches of fantasy and the on-going suspenceful events. The characters are so complex yet simple, quite hard to explain, yet in this set of books I found it so much easier to make a connection to and with all the characters, even the little creature Oy. I have also read the title Wizard and Glass in this series and I reccomend that also. I look forward to seeing what Stephen King holds in store for our band of travellers in the future!

Wow--this series is crazy! I decided to try it after reading King's story in the LEGENDS anthology. I'm not really a Stephen King fan (not into the horror thing), but THE DARK TOWER series had me totally hooked. Dark fantasy, with just some really weird stuff going on, it's totally engrossing. I highly recommend it!

I THINK THESE ARE STEPHEN KINGS BEST. I WAS WITH ROLAND AS HE WAS GOING THROUGH THE DOORS FOR THE OTHER GUNSLINGERS. I WAS SUPRISED AT HOW GREAT THESE BOOKS ACTUALLY WERE. AT FIRST I WAS SCEPTICAL. NOW I'M GLAD I READ THEM AND CAN'T WAIT FOR THE FOURTH BOOK TO COME OUT

Steven King... the name evokes images of rotting corpses, horrible monsters, and evil graveyards. These Dark Tower books, however, are a total suprise. Yes, they have suspense and action and even the occasional monster... but these books are truly not typical of Steven King's normally terror-ridden novels. Possibly the best books I've read... ever.
Fans of fantasy rather than horror will be delighted with these excellent books. Don't let the name fool you... Steven King has been working on something besides corpses and graveyards... and in this readers opinion, he's done a wonderful job.

The Dark Tower series is amazing. There is no better way to put it. King uses colorful descriptions to hold the reader captivated as he does in all his books. This wonderful combination of fantasy, science fiction, and modern times creates an ongoing story that the reader will never be able to put down. In short, I Love this series, and it will stand as my all time favorite. Although it would be difficult to choose, I would pick "Wizard and Glass," as the best book so far. Roland's love story is the main reason I felt obliged to read the entire series a second time. I wait in anticipation of the fifth book.

After hearing about the upcoming release of King's next book in the Dark Tower series...I just had to re-read the first 3 books again. Just like the first time I was completely entranced in his writing. UNBELIEVABLE! Can't wait for the fourth book to come out
